How The Calculation Works

Formulas, material coverage assumptions, waste buffers, and rounding standards.

Gross wall area is perimeter ร— height, less standard deductions for each door (about 21 sq ft) and window (about 12 sq ft). Ceilings are added separately when selected.

Longer 4' x 12' sheets reduce the number of butt joints โ€” the hardest joints to finish invisibly, because they have no tapered edge โ€” so they are usually worth the extra handling on walls over 8 ft.

Screw, tape and compound quantities are derived from the final sheet count using standard spacing of 16" in the field and 8" along edges.

Standard Formula: Sheets = โŒˆ(Net Wall Area + Ceiling Area) ร— (1 + Waste%) รท Sheet AreaโŒ‰
