Sod is ordered by area, but delivered by the pallet — typically 450-500 sq ft. The pallet figure matters most, because sod is a perishable product and suppliers rarely split them.
Waste allows for cutting around beds, paths and curves. Straight rectangular lawns come in near the low end; anything with curved borders runs 12-15%.
Topsoil for preparation is estimated at a 1" dressing, which is the usual amendment before laying onto an existing graded base.
